The initial indicators of hearing loss often present as a temporary alteration in an individual's hearing threshold. This phenomenon generally resolves within a span of 16 to 18 hours, a common experience shared among many, particularly following exposure to loud concerts or extended work hours. Individuals may notice a muffling of sounds accompanied by a potential ringing in the ears.

The app in question effectively measures the faintest sound detectable prior to exposure to music or noise, and subsequently reassesses this threshold post-exposure. The resulting difference serves as an indication of temporary hearing loss, commonly referred to as temporary threshold shift (TTS).

A minimal shift, quantified in decibels (dB), typically lacks significance; however, more pronounced shifts ranging from 6 to 15 dB (indicated in orange) or exceeding 15 dB (marked in red) may signal excessive exposure. In such cases, taking a day or two of relative quiet can be instrumental in preventing temporary issues from progressing to permanent complications. Utilizing hearing protection during future exposures in similar environments would be advisable.
